چکیده

utilized iron chelator produced a dramatic effect on survival of patients with thalassemia. However, DFO has poor oral bioavailability and a short half life, necessitating 12 hours of subcutaneous infusion, rendering therapy extremely cumbersome [1]. Deferiprone (DFP), an orally effective iron chelator, reduces total body iron load and is also effective in removing cardiac iron [1-3]. However, it has a short life and needs to be taken thrice daily, besides having troublesome side effects of arthralgia and neutropenia. Combination of DFO and DFP has proved to be more effective in reducing cardiac iron overload than DFO alone in clinical trials [4]. Deferasirox (DFX), a recently approved, effica-cious, safe, oral iron chelator has the advantage of a longer half life and hence requires once daily administration, leading to better compliance [5,6]. A(a)LS: Ammonia-induced amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a dreadful, devastating and incurable motor neuron disease. Aetiologically, it is a multigenic, multifactorial and multiorgan disease. Despite intense research, ALS pathology remains unexplained. Following extensive literature review, this paper posits a new integrative explanation. This framework proposes that ammonia neurotoxicity is a main player in ALS...

Gains from diversification on convex combinations: A majorization and stochastic dominance approach

By incorporating both majorization theory and stochastic dominance theory, this paper presents a general theory and a unifying framework for determining the diversification preferences of risk-averse investors and conditions under which they would unanimously judge a particular asset to be superior. In particular, we develop a theory for comparing the preferences of different convex combination...

Improved immunogenicity of tetanus toxoid by Brucella abortus S19 LPS adjuvant.

BACKGROUND Adjuvants are used to increase the immunogenicity of new generation vaccines, especially those based on recombinant proteins. Despite immunostimulatory properties, the use of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as an adjuvant has been hampered due to its toxicity and pyrogenicity. Brucella abortus LPS is less toxic and has no pyrogenic properties compared to LPS from other gram negati...
